Heinrich Berkemann establishes the company with the ambition to improve walking through better footwear.

A pioneering insole
The first mass-produced orthopaedic insole makes Berkemann an international pioneer in arch support.

The exercise sandal
Together with foot orthopaedist Professor Thomsen, Berkemann develops the exercise sandal with the original five-phase footbed.

The Noppe is born
The classic wooden footbed is extended with a distinctive massage surface—an icon that still feels unmistakable today.

Every wooden sole passes through a precise production process—from milling the blank and shaping the form to bonding the outsole, fine sanding and final sealing.
Experienced shoemakers then combine the sole, upper, straps and fittings into a durable product. Natural variations in the materials make each pair subtly individual.
